Laundry renovations on the Central Coast

Complete laundry renovations by plumbers, with our own carpenter

ZC Plumbing renovates laundries across the Central Coast from start to finish, with our own licensed plumbers and our own carpenter. That covers a new trough and tapware, relocated drainage where the washing machine is moving, new cabinetry, and the same waterproofing standard as a bathroom, because a laundry floods just as well.

Laundries come with a bathroom more often than not, and we usually quote them together, one crew, one quote and one round of disruption. You choose the fittings, we do everything else, and the work carries a lifetime warranty on our labour and workmanship. Call 0476 000 533 or send a photo through the form of the room as it is now.

What a laundry renovation includes

Most laundry renovations follow the same order. The old trough, cabinets and tiles come out, then the drainage and water are moved to where the new layout needs them. The floor and the wall behind the trough are waterproofed, tiled, and the new cabinetry, benchtop, trough and tapware are fitted. Last comes the fit-off, connecting the washing machine, and the dishwasher too if the laundry backs onto the kitchen, with you supplying the appliances and us doing the plumbing.

If the hot water system lives in the laundry, it's worth deciding before the cabinetry goes in whether it stays, moves outside or gets replaced, because it changes what fits.

How much does a laundry renovation cost?

Across Australia most laundry renovations cost between $5,000 and $25,000, according to hipages figures reported by Canstar. A basic refresh sits at the lower end, a mid-range job with new cabinetry and tiling in the middle, and anything with custom joinery or relocated plumbing goes past $25,000, which matches the brackets RateCity reports.

The biggest single cost driver is usually the plumbing, not the size of the room. Keeping the trough and the washing machine where the drains already are keeps the price down. Moving them means opening the floor or the wall to run new drainage.

We price every laundry after one of the team has looked at it, because the price depends on what's under the floor and behind the wall. When the laundry is done with the bathroom it's one quote for both, with the same crew on site.

Small laundries, euro laundries and moving the laundry

In a small laundry, the plumbing position does more for the space than any cabinet choice. Stacking the dryer on the washing machine, a narrower trough, and taking the cabinets to the ceiling all depend on where the water and drainage can go, so we plan those first.

A euro laundry, where the washing machine and a small trough sit inside a cupboard, usually in the kitchen, hallway or bathroom, needs a drain, hot and cold water, and somewhere for the moisture to go. It frees up a whole room, and the plumbing is the part that decides whether it works.

Moving the laundry to a different room, or turning an old laundry into a second bathroom, is a bigger job. It can need approval, so check with a certifier early, and we'll tell you what the plumbing side involves before you commit.

Waterproofing a laundry properly

A laundry is a wet area under the building code, so the floor and the walls around the trough and the washing machine need to be waterproof or water resistant before they're tiled. A leaking hose or an overflowing trough in a laundry without proper waterproofing ends up in the walls, the floor frame or the room next door.

A floor waste, the drain in the floor, isn't required in a house laundry, but if one is fitted, the floor has to fall to it. In an apartment, a laundry above another unit generally needs its floor graded to a floor waste. HIA has a plain-English guide to floor wastes. We waterproof laundries to the same standard as our bathroom renovations, by the same crew that tiles and fits off.

Laundry plumbing on its own

Not every laundry needs a renovation. We also do the laundry plumbing on its own, a new trough and tapware, washing machine and dishwasher connections where you supply the appliance, dripping taps, and a trough that drains slowly or gurgles.

A trough that keeps blocking, or gurgles when the toilet flushes, usually points to a problem further down the line, and the blocked drains page covers how we find it with the camera. If you already have a builder or cabinet maker for the laundry, we can do just the plumbing.

Laundry renovation questions

Most Australian laundry renovations cost between $5,000 and $25,000, according to hipages. Relocating the plumbing or adding custom joinery pushes it higher. We price every laundry after a visit, and when it's done with the bathroom it's one quote for both.

Yes, and that's how most of ours are done, with the same crew doing both rooms one after the other. See bathroom renovations.

Not in a house, under the national building code. If you fit one, the floor has to fall to it. In an apartment above another unit, the laundry floor generally needs to be graded to a floor waste.

Usually, yes. It needs a drain, hot and cold water and a power point, and moving the drain is the main cost. We'll tell you what's involved once we've seen where the existing drainage runs.

Yes. A euro laundry needs a drain, water and ventilation in the cupboard, and we plan the plumbing so the washing machine and trough fit the space.

Our own carpenter builds and fits the cabinetry, so the plumbing and the joinery are planned together.
