ZC Plumbing attends plumbing emergencies across the Central Coast from Terrigal to Gosford, 24 hours a day. Burst pipes, hot water units leaking or dead, sewers backing up, gas leaks, taps that won't shut off. Nick carries the phone and calls straight back if he misses you.

What to do before the plumber arrives
Find the water meter, usually under a small lid at the front boundary, and turn the tap on it clockwise until it stops. That shuts water to the whole house and turns a burst pipe into a puddle. If it's the hot water unit, there's a valve on the cold pipe going into it, turn that off and leave the rest of the house running.
If it's gas, turn it off at the meter, open the windows, don't touch any switches and get everyone outside. Then call. Those two minutes are the difference between a wet floor and a replaced one.
What counts as an emergency
A burst or split pipe you can't isolate, a hot water unit dumping water or leaving the house with none, sewage coming up in the shower or the overflow gully running in the yard, a gas smell, a tap or toilet that won't stop and is flooding, and water coming through a ceiling.
A dripping tap or a slow sink isn't, and booking it as an everyday repair saves you the after-hours rate.

Nick has the phone around the clock. Call and he'll tell you straight away whether he can get there and roughly when, and if he's on another job when you ring he calls back as soon as he sees the missed call. Normal jobs are booked in business hours. The 24 hour line is for the list above.

Across Australia an emergency call-out runs $150 to $400 just to attend, then $80 to $200 an hour. Ours is $300 after hours, $350 on a Sunday and $450 on a public holiday, and you're told the figure before anyone leaves.
A burst pipe is usually a one-hour fix once the water's off. A dead hot water unit is a replacement, and the hot water page has the ranges. A gas smell is on the gas fitting page, and a sewer backing up on the blocked drains page. There's no separate call-out fee during business hours.
Renting, and who pays
In NSW a burst pipe, a broken hot water system, a blocked or broken toilet, a serious leak and a gas leak are urgent repairs the landlord pays for. If you can't reach the agent you can arrange the repair yourself and be reimbursed up to a set amount.
